Photo Classes

The Nikon 1 System has been engineered from the ground up to give performance far beyond any compact camera, while avoiding the complexities and bulk of most interchangeable lens cameras. Additionally, this new system introduces unique new ways of creating images and telling stories with your photographs and videos. This two-hour class will explore how to get the most out of this new camera system, how to choose the right lenses and accessories, and how to edit and share your photos and video with the included software.

From pixels to printing, this introductory class covers the basics for getting great photos from your digital camera. Topics include: resolution, compression, optical and digital zoom, memory cards, downloading to your home computer and options for printing.

This introductory class is geared for the DSLR beginner. Go beyond the basic auto settings and begin to explore the functions your camera offers you to help you create and achieve the results that you want. We'll discuss exposure modes, metering and other camera options that will help you capture more creative images.

Whether you're using Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Photoshop CS, or another editing program, there are basic tools and techniques that are essential in editing your images. This 4-hour class with a 1-hour break for lunch will help you understand the basics of these programs, which tools you will use, and which you won't. Topics will include:

• Cropping
• Making selections
• Adjusting color & tone
• Spot corrections
• Layers
• JPEG v RAW editing
• Techniques for improving portraits

Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop - computers will not be provided. Class fee - $100

Start to take more control of your Digital SLR. This in-depth 4-hour course with a 1-hour break for lunch will show you how to master your camera’s light meter, use apertures and shutter speeds to your advantage, select the right lens for your needs, and start to explore shooting with flash. File formats, ISO, and filters will also be discussed.

Admission is $50.00 per person.

Several compact cameras feature larger sensors and more manual controls and features, providing image quality that rivals that of digital SLRs. This class will explore how to get the most out of these advanced compact cameras. The presentation will feature Canon G-series cameras and Nikon P-series, as well as other advanced compacts, e.g. Panasonic Lumix LX-5, Leica D-Lux 5, Olympus Ultra Zooms, Fuji HS-10, etc. Topics will include: mastering exposure, advanced AF techniques, exposure compensation and bracketing, white balance, achieving maximum sharpness, and more.

All Digital SLR (and some higher-end point & shoot) cameras can produce RAW files. Are you using this format yet? If so, are you using it to its fullest potential? Our Raw Shooting and Workflow class will help you sort out the differences between RAW and JPEG formats, and how best to edit and organize your photos using RAW editing software. This class will focus primarily on RAW workflow with Adobe Lightroom, but other applications will be discussed.
